A weekend festival celebrating Coventry's unique motoring heritage
Last
year's route covered approximately 60 miles of stunning countryside
around Coventry and North Warwickshire and the 2008 route will cover a
similar distance. Last year the Run went in two directions with entrants
driving both clockwise and counter-clockwise and was hailed as a success
by both drivers and spectators and so we will be doing the same again
this year.
In the popular town of Kenilworth, participants will be welcomed by the
Mayor of Kenilworth before they pass the house of Standard Triumph chief
engineer, Harry Webster CBE, known for his work on TR sports cars and
the Triumph Herald. There are also fine views of the town's magnificent
castle, founded in 1120.
From Kenilworth the route takes in the pretty village of Berkswell,
passing the church and the famous Bear Inn, on to Meriden with its
picturesque duck pond and the 'Cyclist Memorial' erected in memory of
cyclists killed in the Great War.
The route will then take participants up to the ancient village of
Fillongley and across North Warwickshire to the beautiful 500 acre
Coombe Park, complete with woodlands, gardens and lakeside walks perfect
for stretching your legs before the final stretch.
On the final leg entrants will drive through Baginton. Passing by the
site of the Lunt Fort built in 60-80 AD by the Romans, down the road to
the river is the Old Mill listed in the Domesday Book, now a popular pub
and restaurant. There are lots of fabulous watering holes along the
route for you to stop at if you wish!
